This slide set illustrates the large-scale structure of the universe. It begins with the local group of galaxies, then nearby clusters Virgo and Coma Berenices. It includes Hubble's Law and effects of different Hubble constants on the age of the universe; relativistic and non-relativistic doppler effects; the cosmological red shift and the expanding universe concept; open, closed and oscillating universe models; and COBE's measurements of microwave background radiation. Two slides show the large scale distribution of matter in space including the Great Wall and huge voids. A detailed study guide accompanies this set.
